What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of complementary medicine. The Chinese and other eastern cultures have been using acupuncture for over two thousand years to restore, promote and maintain good health.
According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our physical and emotional well-being is dependent on the balanced flow of energy, otherwise known as ‘qi’ through the body. When the flow of ‘qi’ becomes stuck or unbalanced it can lead to ill health.
Through the insertion of ultra fine needles into specific points along these channels of energy, acupuncture can stimulate the body’s own healing response by removing any blockages and helping to restore its natural balance.
Nowadays more and more people are turning to acupuncture as a safe, natural medicine to treat long standing conditions or where conventional treatments have not helped.
Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world and in the UK there are currently over 3000 qualified acupuncturists registered with the British Acupuncture Council.

Becky Hale LicAc, BSc (Hons), Dip Tui Na, MBAcC, DHP
I trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading for nearly 4 years. The acupuncture degree course is validated by Kingston University and accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB).
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and abide by a code of ethics which maintains high standards of education, discipline and practice. I am covered by full public indemnity and liability insurance.
I practice a style of acupuncture which integrates two complementary forms:
• Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which initially concentrates on physical signs and symptoms.
• Five Element Acupuncture, which approaches healing from an emotional and spiritual perspective.
Alongside acupuncture I also use Tui Na (Chinese Remedial Massage), Cosmetic Acupuncture (Facial Revitalisation) and Chinese Dietary Therapy in order to help patients regain good health. I also have extensive training in Hypnotherapy.
Tui Na (Chinese Remedial Massage)
Tui Na (pronounced Twee Na) is a massage therapy and, like acupuncture, has been used in China for over 2500 years. Tui Na is extremely effective at treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain and is an effective intervention for disc problems, frozen shoulder, sciatica, whiplash, back pain and joint pain. It is also useful in balancing the overall energy of the body and can treat a similar range of conditions as acupuncture. Tui Na is a valid alternative for conditions that might otherwise be treated with prescription drugs or by osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists. It is usually administered through light clothing.
Cosmetic Acupuncture
I also have extensive training in cosmetic acupuncture. Cosmetic acupuncture, otherwise known as ‘Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture’ is a new introduction in the West, and offers a natural alternative to surgery offering a painless, non surgical method of reducing the signs of the ageing process. Very fine needles are inserted into particular areas of the face and body according to the individual’s needs. Acupressure (gentle massage around the face) is incorporated into the treatment to further enhance the circulation and muscle tone.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is an altered state, a form of deep physical relaxation in which the unconscious mind is more aware and becomes open to helpful and healing suggestions. Hypnosis can help with stopping smoking, weight control, relaxation, fears and phobias, stress, anxiety, panic attacks, confidence issues, low self esteem, irritable bowel syndrome, eczema, asthma, exam nerves, pain control and nail biting. Past life regression therapy is also available whereby you are guided into hypnosis and then encouraged to explore the details of a particular life or a number of lives. Sometimes a present persistent issue which has not been resolved by other means may be linked to a past life. Many people are just curious to undergo a past life regression session to discover the diversity and detail of the lives they may recall.

Further Training
I regularly attend specialist courses in acupuncture and other complementary health systems.
In November 2008 I joined a study group of 15 British acupuncture practitioners who travelled to Guangzhou in China to observe Chinese Medicine being practiced in one of China’s most modern hospitals. This was a great experience and has provided me with invaluable training which I am now incorporating into my clinics. The Chinese doctors were keen to share as much of their knowledge with us and I learnt so much just from observing them. This was a trip of a lifetime and was a great way of experiencing the Chinese culture.
I practice at Leatherhead Leisure Centre, Fairfield Medical Centre and Reigate Osteopathic Clinic.
